Sorry, just in case you misinterpreted, I got a laugh out of the "google it, you'll see that it is true" statement, not laughing at you Jeffrey.

Glad that you are getting a good laugh today Kevin. The math doesn't quite work out the way you did it Kevin. You also need to consider there are seven days a week. You only work five the seven. When you are mobile, not only do you tend to respond to things after hours, but on the weekends as well. So I actually still believe 2.8 times more productive is still a reasonable figure (much more than 2.8%). Also, productivity is no measured linearly like you are doing because stopping a business process (like not responding to an email for a few days) can greatly slow down your productivity because there other other business processes that are dependent upon that one response from you. Like, if you were able to approve something to be shipped, before the weekend, and the packaged was shipped and waiting for you on Monday morning, you just gained a few days of productivity by not having to wait for that item to be shipped. Multiply that by hundreds of decisions that are made during a given week, during hours and after-hours. Easily 2.8 times more productive. :)

That definitely made me laugh!
So if I work in the office for about 8 hours per day, then to get to 2.8 times more productive wouldn't I have to be working just as efficiently from home, getting just as much done at home, for an additional 2.8 times? That works out to 22.5 hours per day. I think I might be more productive for one day like that, but then I would be a zombie for the rest of the week. I can buy the "1/3 less productive" argument, since companies are expecting their employees now to instantly respond to email at any time of the day, so the average employee with mobile access is going to spend a little bit more time working at home than a non-"mobile-empowered" employee would, so if they don't have mobile access they will work ~1/3 less (8 hours) than if they did (10-12 hours)
I would estimate that I am probably 2-3% more productive on an average day because I have mobile access, so maybe that is supposed to be 2.8% more productive?

2.8 times more productive? I guess having mobile access would give them 24/7 access to their email and such, and you do at least need to let them sleep for an hour and a half a night, so that makes sense. Just curious, anyone know what exactly this stat is supposed to mean?

Google Apps!
So here are some advantages of Google Apps:
* Most likely you will save money on a monthly basis if you are currently paying for a hosted solution. Google Apps is a good deal.
* 25GB of email storage per user: essentially an inexhaustible amount of email storage space
* All users have Mobile Access to all of their mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Android) making every employee 2.8 times more productive
* Google Apps includes the best spam filter included (Postini) at no additional cost. Saving your employees even more time hundreds of hours over 1 year by not having to deal with spam and viruses.
* Google Apps includes more: Instant Messaging for all users. You can see if any user is currently actively using Google Apps(light next to their name is green if they are) and you can type an instant message that pops up on their screen. If the employee is not at their desk, the instant message is automatically emailed to them.
* You can do free voice-chat over the Internet (I actually haven't done this myself but I know others who are using this as their main phone). You potentially can communicate with Missionaries for free this way since Missionaries can get free GMail personal accounts.
* You can do the same (as above with voice-chat) with video chat. This is like Skype. (I have not done this myself).
* You can share unlimited numbers of documents with your employees and others by uploading documents into Google Apps for Online Documents. You can then edit these documents in Google and others that you have shared the Google Docs can see you changing the document, online, as you are changing it. You can share and edit: Word Documents, Excel (Spreadsheet) documents, and Powerpoint (Presentation) documents.
* You will not lose any email or documents that you might otherwise. Google takes care of doing all of the backups and system administration.
* No Server Cost
* Greatly reduce your IT Support Cost by outright replacing Outlook interface with the Google Apps Web Interface
* You can use the Google Search Engine to instantly find files and emails from people that have ever sent an email to you while you are using Google Apps.
* 4 Million Google Apps Users (they must be doing something right)!!
* Free 30 Day trial. Try it for free and see what you think!
* 10 User Account for Free (does not include Google Sync for Outlook).

For years now, I've been able to "make do" with our provider handling our e-mails. But in this current world, I have now have many users with laptop, pads, smartphones, etc. I will have to go a different direction to make sure all e-mails are being synced no matter what device they use.
I know about Exchange of course, but was wondering what else there might be out there to deal with this?
