Dell is good, as is Mirazon. Ask for Greg Kamer, he works with several
churches.

Me too. But i think the reason is that pricing varies so much, depending
on your reseller. I used Dell as well, and it was not a hassel.

I'm always sceptical of companies that won't list a price for their
products on their website and make you fill out your contact information
and wait for a salesman to contact you just to see how much it is. Then
you get nagged every other day when all you wanted was a price...

I did this with VEEAM: fairly affordable and does both hot backup and
replication for disaster recovery. Backups can be mounted directly on an
NTFS partition without using any disk space. And uses changed block
tracking, meaning the backups can hit phenomenal rates: I was getting
over 1GB/s throughput on some big VMs because so little data actually
changed.

Can it do a clone while a VM is "hot" or does the VM have to be offline?

You might check out CloneZilla. It has the ability to communicate with
hardware raid controllers (at least DELL Perc Controllers) and it has
all kinds of options including making snapshots and differential
snapshots and storing them on a NAS or USB drive. It understands lots
of file formats including NTFS, ext2,3,4 and VMFS.

Does VSphere have the ability to do VM snap shots to a different storage
system? I recently lost 4 VMs because of an Equallogic system failure
and I'm looking to create a better disaster recovery plan.
Thanks,
Bill Lloyd
