EMS Professional provides a great solution. Several flavors of it can be found here: http://www.dea.com/Default.aspx
The version we use does require a server running SQL or SQL express. Not sure if there is a cloud option available.

Subject: [itdiscuss] Church Group Calendar
The Music Director of my church asked that I pass this request on to you all. Can you give us some ideas? I'm a little skittish of using Google.
There are many activities that meet at our church in any given week. Our church currently uses the big calendar you buy at the office supply warehouse and we try to fit everything in that little box provided for each day. :( ...there has to be a better way...
1. Does your church utilize any software for a Master Calendar? if so, what? Are you pleased with it, would you recommend it, and who is in charge of it, ..the secretary?
2. If you use any computerized method of planning for rehearsals and meetings, is it integrated with a Master calendar?
I'm basically researching the easiest way to set up a Master Calendar here at our church. I would like for it to be simple for the user yet multi-layered for multiple item entry. I am told that Google apps (& calendar) no longer provides its service free to "religious organizations". Something cloud-based would be (I think) the right choice.
for example:
Rehearsals for various musical groups, some at the same time yet different locations
Cleaning schedule
Boy Scouts / Quilting Guild
Preschool / Classical Conversations (school one day per week)
Weddings / Showers / WIC meetings
Youth Meetings / choir rehearsals / retreats
Sanctuary use: chapel / piano lessons
Senior Saints ministry (retired yet active adults) / mentoring
Bus use schedule
