Kelley,
I haven't used Google voice, but that might be a possibility.
Other options....
You can use a texting service to get allow texting to a number. This
number isn't associated with any phone. We used Club Texting for various
things and have setup key words, depending on the need. We recently used
a keywork "Psalms" for folks to ask questions related to a sermon
series.
You can set-up the account to forward the TXT messages to e-mail etc.
If you want to use a phone number, you could use a voicemail service
that e-mails your messages as an attached audio file. The services are
in the $20 - $30/mo range and it doesn't require any equipment at your
end. You might be able to do this with your voicemail system.
Hope this helps..

We are trying to set up a special contact for our prayer ministry. What
they want is a phone number that people can either call and leave a
voicemail or send a text message. We don't want the number to be
anyone's regular cell number (they want to be able to move it around if
needed) but we also don't want them to have to carry 2 phones. I'm
thinking maybe google voice is the answer??? Does anyone have an invite
so I can play with it? Or another possible solution?
Thanks.
