The batteries can be charged by an auto battery charger?

what you could do is remove the batteries - 

and then hook them to a trickle charger ($20 or so from autozone) 

 

give it 2amps for a few hours and then place back in and see if they
power

 

works much of the time 

 

funny - i have gotten batteries to have some serious life after doing
this 

 

it depends upon a whole lot of things - however
