If you¹re still worried about security and want an internal only solution,
you might check out EIOBoard.com . While this is not an IM only solution, it
includes IM along with its IN/OUT Board functionality for your staff.  They
have an Outlook Add-in as well as software for the PC.  The included browser
interface will work with any Macs you may have, but will not allow for chat.

For 10 users its only $100 per year.  We are using the 50 user for $500 per
year.
