I'll second that. I use Audacity to record our events here at WTTB.
It's capabilities far exceed what I am using it for. I record audio
directly through a line in on a laptop, and then use their built-in
utilities to clean up the audio of noise and to normalize the track. It
converts audio into a variety of formats and has hundreds of plug-ins to
add an array of effects. Oh, and I like the price too J
