Dave,
We had a church IT podcast devoted to IT volunteerism a while back. You
can check listen to the audio or read the transcript here
http://citpodcast.wiki.zoho.com/Episode9.html
I think you'll find a lot of good stuff in there :-)

Subject: [itdiscuss] Developing a volunteer IT team
To those of you that have successfully involved volunteers in your IT
ministry:
What are the roles and tasks that your volunteers fill and do?
How many volunteers work with you at least once a month?
Are your volunteers primarily helping you maintain your network (i.e.,
helpdesk, troubleshoot/repair)? Or do they help you specialize/advance
in specific areas (i.e., virtualization, storage, etc.)?
How do you continue to motivate your volunteers?
What advice do you have to offer for developing a volunteer IT team?
(I'm interested in both the "I'll never do that again" or "This was the
greatest thing since sliced bread" categories)
grace & peace,
Dave Stone
