[itdiscuss] Cell/PDA/Exchange 2003 Integration

Both work pretty much the same as far as user experience.

The Blackberry server piece requires some work -- Tim Larson can explain more regarding MTW's experience.

MTW is providing both solutions for users. We've upgraded to Exchange 07 and like the management features built into the Exchange server. We also allow iphones -- though have only one user at this time.

We have both "corporate" owned and managed phones as well as individuals who use their personal PDA/phones to sync their data. We have just written a new policy for personal use -- if anyone would like a copy, email me ken.thompson at mtw.org and I'll be happy to send it.

Does anyone have a comparison experience between ActiveSync and the
BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

Thanks,

Same story at Perimeter, with the additional "clarification" that
iPhones do not [today] support ActiveSync, no matter how cool they are
otherwise...

The following was communicated to our users this spring:
"Several people have expressed a desire to have personal PDA/Mobile
device connected to the network for synchronization purposes. In an
ongoing effort to better serve you we have developed the following
criteria for approving these devices:

If you intend to synchronize your PDA/Mobile device with
{church/organization name} email, contacts, tasks, etc. that device must
support Microsoft(r) Exchange ActiveSync(r) (For Exchange 2003 or
later). This would include Windows Mobile (version 5 or later) devices
and some Palm devices (you should confirm compatibility with your
reseller of the device). Devices that do not have Microsoft(r) Exchange
ActiveSync(r) are not approved devices for use in conjunction with our
network.

If you plan to purchase such a device in the future, I strongly
encourage you to check with me to assure your device will be compatible
with our network prior to your purchase."
-------------
Do we have preferred providers: No any user can select their provider.
It doesn't matter to us since we don't support the phone or the data
plan. If they have data connection issues they must resolve those with
their carrier before contacting IT.
We do not currently support the iPhone... until it is ActiveSync
compatible.

We to establish guidelines for our staff for purchasing cell/PDAs. We
want to recommend something that we know will work reliably with
Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2007 for email and calendars, primarily. What
are you recommending for your staff? Do you have preferred providers?
Are you supporting iPhones?

Thanks for any advise.
