If you are running VMWare, then each guest must have a separately licensed copy of Windows. If you use MS Virtual Server and run it on the Enterprise OS, then you can install up to 4 Windows guests without purchasing additional licensing.

Subject: [itdiscuss] VMware Licensing
I am looking into the possible use of Virtual Software for increasing the number of servers. We have a fairly robust server now and are not using it to its potential however, I like the availability that the virtualization of the server affords me without an increase in foot print. (Small IT Closet)
My question is about licensing, If I install Linux Ubuntu server and the free version of VMware, then install my licensed copy of Windows Server 2003 Standard, can I install it multiple times on that one machine within that license or for each installation on one physical machine do I need seperate licenses. Trying to read through microsofts volumns of paperwork regarding licensing only brings on a migrane.
Any thoughts
Matt
