I'm used to the 3Com SS3 & the Astaro. With those FWs, you don't have to go through so many steps to configure basic things.

What was it you didn’t like about the watchguard management approach? I agree the method for configuring rules on the older firewalls (each rule with an incoming and outgoing section, etc.) was a little strange, but have you looked at the Fireware interface? Yours was probably running WFS. The newer firewalls have a completely re-tooled interface that is much more intuitive and powerful. I had finally gotten used to the old interface, but now that I manage a bunch with Fireware I hate going back to the older WFS models we still have out ther.

Some people I talk to really prefer a web-managed appliance, and if that is the case then watchguard is probably not ever going to meet your requirements.

Does anyone know of a good, secure, and easy to manage, open source firewall? Any particular recommendations for good firewalls? I need to replace an old WatchGuard 700 FW. I don’t particularly care for the management approach of the WatchGuard product.

Thanks,
