[itdiscuss] backup software - the dreaded question

We use Retrospect and I really like it. They take a whole different
approach, so it takes a little getting used to, at first. We moved from
Veritas. By the time I would have paid for the cost of fully licensing
and the support for the extra systems I had, I was able to justify the
purchase of Retrospect with unlimited client licenses. Additionally,
every restore test just simply worked. That was a lot different than
the Veritas product. Retrospect also has a variety of client agents,
including a MAC agent. It also has some special features that allow you
to effectively backup laptops without having to figure out scheduling
issues.

Subject: [itdiscuss] backup software - the dreaded question

Ladies and Gents:

Of course, everyone likes certain software for backup. In my last 7
years of running the backup systems, I have not once really been happy
with how it works. It never seems to complete without failures, whether
it is Veritas (now Symantec) or CA Brightstor or what have you. So my
question is what are you all using for your backup software, and are you
happy with it? Does it reliably notify you only if there is a legitimate
problem? What are you backing up?

Maybe your thoughts can help me solve my delimma; I have been
investigating CommVault Galaxy Express, but it is still very expensive
after you past the initially bundled quantity of servers and
applications. I realize you can't put a price on your data, but....
